First trip of the New Year to the Lake District

I have not visited the Lake District since last year, all the way back in December. So after such a disgustingly long absence, my joy to be back in the fells again was significant.
In my opinion, winter is the best time of year to visit. The conditions can be so varied and beautiful, snow-capped peaks, deep dark moody skies and stormy conditions or the possibility of a perfectly calm day with clear blue skies, no wind and crisp sub-zero temperatures.
Visitor numbers are also constantly climbing year on year, and whilst this isn’t noticeable once off on the trail, more than 10 minutes from a car park, it can make finding lodging, parking or an evening meal quite difficult in the summer months.

For this trip, we sadly just missed out on the best of the snow and ice with temperatures warming slightly over the few days before we arrived. Melting away all but the highest altitude accumulation.
Still, on the bright side, I guess this did mean easier accessibility and walking.
