Misty Morning Sunrise Photography

Back in April I took an early morning trip into the Peak District National park chasing mist laden sunrise views of Hope valley from Winnats pass at Mam tor.

However predicting mist or fog is notoriously hard to get right, checking the weather forecasts for the then upcoming weekend showed a drop in overnight temperatures into negative figures,
I surmised that even if there wasnt a blanket of mist, there was a good chance of frost forming which would be burnt off by the rising sun to create a haze in the valley.

For those that arent familliar with the Peak District National park in the UK, Mam tor is a 517 metre high hill with stunning views over valleys in all directons. Winnats Pass is a limestone gorge that runs up from Hope valley towards Mam tor.

To make it for the 7am-ish sunrise the choice was either camping out in the sub zero temperatures, allowing plenty of time to get up and get setup in the morning or sleeping in a warm bed, getting up at 5am, driving the hour and a half to Mamtor and then running to Winnats pass to make it just in time for sunrise. I chose the latter.
